Submission Guidelines

The submission period for Volume 10 of The Delmarva Review, for 2017, is open from November 1, 2016 through March 31, 2017, for publication in October 2017.  All selections will be made by May 2017 and authors will be notified.

Please review these guidelines for submissions.

The Delmarva Review is a literary journal publishing original short fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, and short book reviews. We produce print (paperback), print-on-demand (POD), and electronic (ebook) editions that are made available to readers through major online distribution channels. The Review welcomes work from all authors, writing in English.

We seek great storytelling, memorable poetry, and creative nonfiction exhibiting skillful expression. The editors appreciate the writer's ability to engage readers on more than one level.

The Review will consider photography or artwork for the cover and illustration on inside pages. Images should be submitted as a 300 dpi file attachment (.jpg or .tiff). The minimum size is: 6” wide x 9”.

The Delmarva Review is published annually by the Eastern Shore Writers Association to inspire and encourage literary writing. It is copyrighted, and all rights revert to the author after publication.

How to Submit:
We only consider e-mail submissions from this site (via Submittable). Editors review work on a rolling basis, so early submissions are encouraged. While you may hear from us within a month, we often hold some pieces longer to consider compatibility for the issue as it develops. It is our desire to contact all authors no later than May 2017.

Please use the link at the bottom of this page for all submissions.

Submitted material must be unpublished. On occasion, the editor will invite previously published work with a credit to the original publication. “Unpublished” means work that has not been previously published in print or online in electronic journals, e-zines, or publishing websites. Works posted on personal blogs and websites will be considered on an individual basis. Please note this at the time of submission.

For fiction, our preference is literary writing. While the lines between literary and genre fiction are narrowing today, we are not interested in formulaic or plot-driven writing so often characterizing genre fiction. We seek evocative storytelling with well-developed characters who take hold of our emotions and stir our imaginations. Memorability is the ultimate reward. The same will be true for the personal essay.

We will consider simultaneous submissions, but you should inform us immediately if the work has been accepted by another publication.
